Object of Foundation and Aim of Education

The Naval Academy, established in 1945, trains leader`s who will lead "The Age of the Navy" in the 21th century. The Naval Academy is a specialized organization for the military training that produces international midshipmen taught by elite professors and facilities. With high responsibility and pride, the Naval Academy produces excellent naval commanders who have been educated in the liberal arts, military sciences and exercises.

Curriculum

A midshipman should earn a total of 146 credits over for four years. The midshipmen will study the liberal arts in the freshman. There after students can choose from nine majors. Electrical engineering, Information and Communication engineering, Mechanical engineering and naval architecture, Management science Oceanography, Computer science, International relations, Foreign language, and Military history and strategy. More importantly, the military department arranges the study of military knowledge which is required for a naval officer, as well as acomprehensive knowledge of military exercises. Each midshipman , who passes the four-years program will be granted a degree of Bachelor of Engineering, Bachelor of Science, or Bachelor of Arts and become appointed as a naval officer.

The Naval Academy places a great emphasis on English in order to train the midshipmen to be the best officers and honorable representatives of Korea in the international community. All the instructorss try hard to educate the midshipmen to learn living English based on "listening and speaking" abilities. Further, foreign instructors and the multimedia systems help the midshipmen master their English abilities for close relations with other naval officer in the world.

Expansion of Computer Education

Computer science is a major part of the midshipmen`s curriculum, and they spend a large measure of time upgrading their skills. The naval Academy also makes every effort to train all the midshipmen to operate state-of-the-art naval equipment. A personal notebook computer is given to all midshipmen. Furthermore, the LAN system installed through our Academy can give the midshipmen plenty of opportunities to enhance their computer knowledge.
